Dr Cowie graduated with a PhD from the University of Sydney in 2013 and is a researcher at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research and the South West Sydney Clinical School at the University of New South Wales. She is an environmental epidemiologist and has a research interest in the impacts of air pollution on human health with a special focus on traffic-related air pollution. Her work is public health-based which allows her to study effects in large populations. She is particularly interested in the methods used to estimate and assign air pollution exposures to study subjects or broad populations. Her expertise includes epidemiological methods, exposure assessment methods for environmental exposures, fieldwork, and project management. Dr Cowie maintains active participation in the activities of the Woolcock Institute’s Next Generation Committee, the International Society of Environmental Epidemiology, The Clean Air Society of Australia and the New Zealand and the Australasian Epidemiological Association.
