The Sleep and Circadian Research Group is the largest research group within the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research. The Group are world leaders in their field, working to forge new ground in the understanding of the biology of sleep and the prevention and treatment of sleep disorders.

We are seeking to grow our team with the appointment of an outstanding Senior Sleep Scientist – Research (permanent role).

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to and collaborate with the sleep research team on research study design and planning.
  • Oversee the provision, technical accuracy and quality of research-related polysomnographic recordings.
  • Provide sleep technology training for research team members.
  • Facilitate protocol implementation (instrumentation and testing methodologies) required for research studies. 
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and conduct of an effective quality assurance program.
  • Oversee the maintenance and record keeping of sleep research equipment.
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership within our multidisciplinary sleep research team.

Essential criteria

  • At least three years’ experience in a clinical and/or research sleep setting.
  • Current certification in sleep science or clinical physiology e.g., RPSGT, ACCP, ANZSSA Certification in Sleep Science.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities (including prior experience in a leadership role and/or leading a team), with a focus on operational excellence and team collaboration.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience across a broad range of sleep physiological measurements.
  • Advanced knowledge of scientific equipment and quality assurance processes.
  • Technical proficiency in the performance of diagnostic and treatment polysomnography.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of research principles.

Desirable criteria

  • Technical knowledge of high-density electroencephalography (EEG).
  • Expertise in EEG signal processing and quantitative EEG analysis approaches including programming expertise (MATLAB and Python). 
  • PhD or Masters by research.
