At the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research, over 200 researchers and clinicians are working tirelessly and passionately to discover new knowledge in areas of sleep and breathing disorders. With government grants fast shrinking every year and only covering 15% of all worthy research projects, your help is needed more than ever!
For the next three years, we are focusing on the following three core areas of urgent need.
- Lung Cancer: Every year in NSW alone, more than 37,500 new cases of cancer are expected to be diagnosed. The Woolcock, with support from various funding bodies, will soon launch Australia’s very first research centre specifically dedicated to lung cancer. But additional funding is still required for researchers.
- Brain Drain: Every research requires a group of dedicated and passionate researchers. Proudly educated in Australia, many of our world-class researchers are leaving home because there just isn’t the funding we need to accommodate our proud Australian-educated researchers.
- Primary care: Sleep and breathing disorders are chronic illnesses which require a constant, measured approach for diagnosis. But currently, our primary care is structured to provide care for acute illnesses. To better address this urgent need, the Woolcock has recently begun trialing an infrastructure model to help those primary care providers in diagnosing the symptoms earlier and more effectively.
So join us as our world-class researchers discover new knowledge into lung cancer and as we endeavour to create a better diagnostic environment for patients with chronic illnesses!
