NHMRC grant success at the Woolcock

Congratulations to all our fabulous researchers who were part of successful NHMRC grants announced last Friday.

Dr Greg Fox and Professor Guy Marks have leveraged their relationships with the University of Sydney, McGill University in Canada and the National Lung Hospital, Hanoi, Vietnam among others and built on our existing research infrastructure in Vietnam to investigate multi-drug resistant tuberculosis in that country;

Dr Brian Oliver and Associate Professor Paul Young, in collaboration with Associate Professor Lisa Wood from the University of Newcastle will study mechanisms of impaired bronchodilator response associated with fatty acid intake in obese asthma;

Professor Carol Armour and Dr Bandana Saini, in collaboration with Professor Anushka Patel and others at the George Institute will work on integrating general practice and pharmacy-based intervention to promote the better prescription and use of preventive medications among individuals at high cardiovascular risk;

Dr Claudia Dobler was been awarded a TRIP Fellowship to look at improving evidence based treatment of latent TB infection in public hospital based chest clinics; and

A new Centre of Research Excellence will be establish – the National Clinical Centre of Research Excellence in Severe Asthma led by Professor Peter Gibson, Professor Guy Marks, Associate Professor Greg King and Associate Professor Helen Reddel.
